Ana’s Mission:
Ana believes strongly in the 21st Century learning principles – that learning is child-, project-, and problem-based. She recognizes that as our world changes, so must the content. The way we educate our children must shift and strike new balances to meet the needs of today’s learners. Ana feels that a learner’s toolbox must be varied and vast. Creativity, risk-taking, critical thinking, and technology are the vehicles by which we learn and communicate. As a teacher, Ana believes her job is that of facilitator and guide through the learning process. She contends that each child deserves the best of her teaching, no matter their level, no matter their passions. Ana seeks to empower students to become independent learners and to see authentic purpose in their education. She believes learning cannot exist without laughter, without collaboration, and without a little bit of noise.
The experience that informs Ana’s teaching:
Coming from a family of educators, after college, Ana swore she would never go into teaching. But perhaps it was in her blood because nothing else seemed as important to her. Having been surrounded by progressive educators as parents her entire life, she watched them continue to hone their crafts, bring humor and excitement to their students and schools, and to find value and meaning in their profession for over 25 years. Ana said, “No one in my family was surprised when I finally caved and admitted that education really was the path for me.”
