Below are some edited updates on Peter provided by his dad, Charles:
“Peter is feeling and doing better and will likely be going home Monday or Tuesday. We had a ‘care conference’ Friday with cardiology, pulmonology, the social worker and our peerless pediatrician to discuss the mystery that is Peter’s lung condition. The only thing that’s truly clear from the many tests he’s undergone is that his lungs are having an inflammatory response to something, and that he’s been having this response since February of 2011 at least.
None of the proposed diagnoses are really demonstrated to doctors’ satisfaction. So despite this uncertainty, he’ll go home on special medications aiming for a 4-6-week course and then hoping to wean, in addition to his regular meds. Plus, instead of oxygen at night, he’ll do C-pap (positive pressure mask) for a few weeks to boost his lung function.
He has had many visitors in hospital room to help pass this isolation—think Steve McQueen in The Cooler. And there are many plans in the weeks ahead to recoup for Peter the weeks and months, not to mention fun holidays, he has missed this year. Coming soon among his friends: Peter (the Great) Hanson, on steroids, so keep the the love coming, and the Twinkies.”
