Art

Up one level

In Kindergarten, art is integrated with nearly every aspect of the curriculum and is taught by the Kindergarten teacher. Grades 1 to 5 take weekly art classes from an artist trained by the Community School of Music and Arts. Over the course of the year, students study line, shape, color, value, contour, ceramics, multi-cultural art, self-portraiture, and artist studies. Principles of art concepts build upon each other spiraling from grade to grade with children’s increasing skill. For example during the study of shape, Grade 1 students will work on line that is descriptive and shows movement. In Grade 5 the concept of line explores three-dimensional forms such as wire sculptures.
